For her first-ever role on TV, US actress Liv Tyler has picked The Leftovers, with its mysterious storyline by Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof.
The series, currently being developed for HBO, revolves around the remaining residents of a small town called Mapleton devastated by the sudden and inexplicable disappearance (referred to as "the Rapture," biblical or otherwise) of their friends and neighbours.
Liv Tyler (pic) is to play Meg, a young woman looking for a way out of her engagement to get married. That makes her an ideal target for a cult called the Guilty Remnant, whose members take a vow of silence.
Justin Theroux will co-star as the town's police chief and father of two struggling to maintain a semblance of normalcy in the wake of the Rapture.
Lindelof, the co-creator and erstwhile scripter and showrunner of Lost, is working on the screenplay with Tom Perrotta, the author of the novel The Leftovers.
Assuming the drama does get aired, The Leftovers will be Liv Tyler's first stint on TV. The daughter of Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler has had quite a prolific movie career since the 1990s, gaining fame particularly for her portrayal of Arwen in the Lord Of The Rings trilogy.
