THE National Geographic Channel is taking viewers back to the 1980s to show us some of the lasting legacies of the decade through two series – The 80s: The Decade That Made Us and 80s Greatest, which will be aired back-to-back over five days this month.
Narrated by Rob Lowe, The 80s: The Decade That Made Us is a six-part mini series that takes viewers on an “epic, roller coaster ride” through the decade via interviews with music and film icons of the decade as well as titans of technology, business, media and politics.
The series aims to show that despite its reputation for bad hair and loud clothing, the 1980s were actually a big, bold time for just about everything – from politics to technology to entertainment and, of course, fashion.
Among the notable icons and newsmakers who will be featured include media mogul Ted Turner, technology titan Steve Wozniak, director Oliver Stone as well as actors like Jane Fonda, Michael J. Fox, Joan Collins, David Hasselhoff, Linda Evans, Linda Gray and designer Calvin Klein.
Meanwhile, 80s Greatest will showcase some of the pivotal moments in the 1980s in terms of sports, gadgetry and tragedies.
The series will be divided into three parts: the ‘80s Greatest Football Moments (in which some of the decade’s most famous and controversial games will be highlighted with a focus on some of the heroes of the game), the ‘80s Greatest Gadgets (which looks at how the Sony Walkman, the personal computer and video games triggered a technological revolution) and ‘80s Greatest Sporting Icons which features world-class sporting heroes like Mike Tyson, Ayrton Senna and Martina Navratilova.
Be sure to tune in.
